Oricum Archaeological Park preserves an ancient Illyrian harbor that evolved into a Greek polis at the south end of the Bay of Vlorë, located at the foot of the Akrokeraunian Mountains marking the border between Epirus and Illyria[1]. The site later became a significant Roman city between the provinces of Epirus Vetus and Epirus Nova in Macedonia[1]. Its strategic coastal position made it continuously used as a naval base from antiquity through modern times[1].
