Byllis Archaeological Park

Byllis was the chief settlement of the Illyrian Bylliones tribe, founded between 370 and 350 BC in what is now Hekal, Fier County, Albania. Its massive fortification walls were built before the end of the 4th century BC, making it the largest city in southern Illyria. The site acquired Hellenistic features and later became a Roman municipality. Designated as an archaeological park in 2003, it preserves a well-preserved 7,500-seat theatre, a stadium, a prytaneion, a gymnasium, and workshops for pottery, metalworking, and coin minting. The city was sacked by invaders in 586 AD and abandoned. The park offers panoramic views over the Vjosa Valley and the Adriatic Sea.
