Fortress Lezhë

4th-century BC Illyrian fortification later expanded under Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman rule. The castle sits at 322 m elevation, dominating Lezhe in northern Albania with its highest point at 186 m [1]. The site holds historical significance as Lissus, mentioned in the 385 BCE alliance between Illyrian king Bardylis and Dionysius I of Syracuse [1]. The castle bears traces of Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture.
