Finiq Archaeological Park

Phoenice (modern Finiq) was the capital of the Chaonians, an ancient Greek tribe in Epirus, and once the wealthiest city in the region. Founded in the 5th century BC, its fortifications were expanded in the 4th century with massive stone blocks up to 3.6 metres thick. The city's theater could seat approximately 17,000 spectators, making it one of the largest in Albania. In 205 BC the Treaty of Phoenice was signed here, ending the First Macedonian War. Italian-Albanian collaborative excavations since 2000 have revealed details of the city's Hellenistic and Roman layout.
