Amantia

Amantia was an ancient city and main settlement of the Amantes, located in southern Illyria during classical antiquity. The massive fortification walls were constructed before the end of the 4th century BC, making them among the earliest examples of Illyrian defensive architecture. In Hellenistic times, the city belonged either to Illyria or Epirus, while in Roman times it became part of Epirus Nova within the province of Macedonia. The site, identified with the modern village of Ploçë in Vlorë County, Albania, was designated an archaeological park in 2003. [1][2]
