Kratul Fortification

Kratul is an Illyrian settlement and fortification in the territory of the Labeates tribe, located on a rocky hill near Shkodra in northern Albania, about 6 km northeast of the city. Built in the 1st millennium BC, it was occupied from the early Iron Age until the 1st century AD. The fortification wall encloses an elliptical area of about 0.5 ha, constructed with large unworked blocks without mortar. Three gates provided access on the north, south, and east sides. The hilltop commands views over the Shtoj plain and Rozafa Castle.
