Croft Ambrey

Croft Ambrey is an Iron Age hillfort on Yatton Hill in Herefordshire, England, overlooking the valleys north of Leominster. Excavated between 1960 and 1966, the triangular fort began as a settlement around 1050 BC and was extended circa 460 BC, with occupation ending around 48 AD. The site housed an estimated 500-900 people in closely packed rectangular buildings arranged along streets, with an economy based on grain production, stock rearing, and weaving. The annexe contained a Romano-Celtic temple with Samian ware pottery, and up to five medieval pillow mounds used as rabbit warrens.
