Cefn Carnedd

Cefn Carnedd is a strongly defended multi-vallate Iron Age hillfort about 2 km southwest of Caersws in Powys, Wales, and a scheduled monument. At its greatest extent it enclosed approximately 6 hectares (15 acres), defended by triple banks and ditches with rampart scarps up to 3.5 m high on the southwest, north, and northeast sides. Study of the ramparts suggests the hillfort expanded and grew more complex during the Iron Age (c. 800 BC-AD 74). It overlooks the River Severn and a confluence of the Cerist and Trannon rivers, and has been suggested as a possible site of the defeat of Caractacus in AD 51.
