Burfa Castle

Burfa Castle is a large multivallate Iron Age hillfort near Old Radnor in Powys, Wales, measuring approximately 579 by 187 metres and enclosing around 20 acres. Its defenses comprised multiple stone-revetted ramparts with medial ditches, and the main northwest entrance featured three or four banks creating a torturous twisting approach to deter attackers. The site lies close to Offa's Dyke, which passes near the base of Burfa Bank. Artifacts dating from the 1st and 2nd centuries CE have been recovered, and traces of a Roman army camp have been found nearby. A scheduled monument since at least 1913, the hillfort has been badly damaged by forestry and little remains visible today.
