Castell Dinas

Castell Dinas is a multivallate hillfort and medieval castle in southern Powys, Wales, positioned to defend the Rhiangoll pass between Talgarth and Crickhowell. At 450 m elevation, it holds the highest castle in England and Wales. The hillfort dates to the Iron Age (c. 800 BC - AD 74) and is roughly oval, covering about 9 hectares. A Norman stone castle was built within it around 1070-1075, possibly by William Fitz Osbern, though standing remains date to the 13th century. The castle was captured and destroyed by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in 1265 and never rebuilt.
