Huánuco Pampa

Huanuco Pampa is a major Inca administrative center in Dos de Mayo Province, Huanuco Region, Peru, built c. 1460 CE along the Qhapaq Nan highway between Cusco and Quito. One of six sites designated a "New Cusco," the city covers 2 sq km with over 4,000 buildings centered on an immense plaza of 550 x 350 meters. It contained 497 storehouses and 30 processing buildings for food and textiles, plus the Casa del Inca elite residence with baths, terraces, and sunken gardens. Construction was halted around 1536 following the Spanish conquest.
