Megalithic Wall, Gubbio

The ancient walls of Gubbio (Roman Iguvium) in Umbria, Italy, trace their origins to the Umbrian and Roman periods. The Iguvine Tables reference three city gates -- Trebulana, Tessenaca, and Vehia -- indicating a substantial pre-Roman wall circuit. The defenses were restored or rebuilt under Roman influence in the 2nd century BC, using local limestone. The walls stretch 2.85 km with a maximum height of 12 m and thickness of 0.5 to 3 m, incorporating both monolithic and hollow-core construction.
