Necropolis of Fossa

The Necropolis of Fossa, known as "Abruzzo's Little Stonehenge," is an Italic burial ground in the commune of Fossa, Province of L'Aquila, discovered in 1992. Covering 3,500 square meters with about 500 graves, it spans nearly 1,000 years (9th-1st century BC) across three phases: Iron Age, Orientalizing-Archaic, and Hellenistic. Used by the Vestini people and later by Romans, the site features tumuli with stone circles, chamber tombs, and pit graves. Finds include ceramics, jewelry, funerary beds, bronze razors, and iron weapons.
