Necropoli Etrusca di Norchia

Norchia is an ancient Etruscan city and necropolis near Vetralla in northern Lazio, established as a satellite settlement of the powerful city of Tarquinia along the Via Clodia. Inhabited since the Bronze Age, it reached its peak between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. The rock-cut tombs, carved from tuff cliffs, include distinctive dice-shaped tombs and Doric temple-facade tombs with carvings of ritual processions, Etruscan demons, and Gorgon heads. The plateau above preserves ruins of a medieval castle and the Romanesque church of San Pietro.
