El Mirador

El Mirador is a large pre-Columbian Middle and Late Preclassic Maya settlement in northern El Petén, Guatemala, considered the most important Preclassic Maya complex [1]. The site features the massive La Danta pyramid, one of the tallest and most voluminous in the world [1]. It comprised an estimated 800 cities connected by 13 causeways—white roads measuring 40 meters wide—forming what researchers call the world's first highway system [1].
