Pajaral

Pajaral is a Classic Maya archaeological site in the Peten department of Guatemala, identified as a capital of the ancient Hixwitz ("Jaguar Hill") kingdom. Previously known only from references at Yaxchilan and Piedras Negras, the kingdom's location was confirmed through monument discoveries at Pajaral and nearby Zapote Bobal. The site features a large isolated hill with a monumental staircase and acropolis, likely the original "Jaguar Hill". An Early Classic stela fragment depicts a ruler named Yajawte' K'inich, a name reused by a later Pajaral king, suggesting dynastic continuity.
