Tikal

Mundo Perdido (Lost World) is the largest Preclassic ceremonial complex at the ancient Maya city of Tikal in Guatemala. Organized as an E-Group astronomical complex, its central pyramid (Structure 5C-54) stands 32 meters high with an 80-meter base, flanked by stairways with huge masks. Tunnels reveal four earlier pyramids beneath, the oldest dating to 700 BC, making it the oldest Maya structure at Tikal. By AD 250-300, Teotihuacan influence introduced the talud-tablero architectural style. The complex comprises 38 structures and served as an astronomical observatory for tracking the sun's trajectory.
