Holmul is a major Maya archaeological site in the Peten region of Guatemala, continuously occupied from 800 BC to 900 AD. First scientifically excavated by R.E. Merwin in 1911, it produced the first ceramic sequence in the Maya Lowlands. Murals at nearby La Sufricaya reference Teotihuacan contact and the arrival of Sihyah K'ahk' at Tikal in 378 AD, revealing early imperial alliance networks. The site was strategically important to both the Tikal and Kaanul dynasties during the Classic period.
