GuatemalaLa Sufricaya is a pre-Columbian Maya site in the Peten Basin of Guatemala, situated 1.2 km west of the larger city of Holmul. Its core features an elevated plaza with a temple, a large palace platform, a ballcourt, and over 40 residential groups. The palace complex dates to c. 378 CE, when rulers expressed connections to the distant Mexican metropolis of Teotihuacan through architecture, murals, calendrical texts, and imported materials. Murals depict the arrival of the Teotihuacan dignitary Sihyaj K'ahk' on January 16, 378 AD, a pivotal event in Maya history.
