Temple of Hera, Olympia

The Temple of Hera (Heraion) at Olympia, Greece, is an ancient Archaic Greek temple dedicated to Hera, queen of the Olympic gods [1]. Built ca. 580 BC, it is the oldest temple at Olympia and one of the most venerable in all Greece [1]. Originally a joint temple of Hera and Zeus until a separate temple was constructed for Zeus [1]. The temple was destroyed by an earthquake in the early 4th century AD [1]. Today, the Olympic flame is lit at its east-west oriented altar and carried to worldwide locations [1].
