Paos

Paos is an ancient Greek settlement (kome) in Achaea, northwestern Peloponnese, situated on a hill at approximately 745 metres elevation near modern Paleos Paos village. First mentioned by Herodotus, the site was visited by Pausanias in 167 AD, who found it already in ruins. The ancient fortification had an inner wall enclosing the acropolis (roughly 35x22x40x10 m) and a later medieval outer wall spanning 516 metres with a nearly triangular plan. A surviving cistern measuring 11x8 metres stands at the northwestern corner. The site remains largely unexcavated.
