Sesklo

Sesklo is one of the largest prehistoric settlements in Europe, located on Kastraki Hill near Volos in Thessaly, Greece. Inhabited from the mid-7th to the 4th millennium BC, the settlement gives its name to the earliest known Neolithic culture of Europe. At its peak around 5000 BC it covered roughly 100 acres with 500-800 houses, featuring mudbrick dwellings with stone foundations organized around narrow alleyways and fortification walls. The site yielded distinctive painted pottery, obsidian blades sourced from the island of Milos, and clay figurines. Notable structures include the megaron, an impressive central building, and the Potter's House, destroyed by fire.
