Glaphyrae

Glaphyrae was a settlement in Magnesia, ancient Thessaly, Greece, mentioned by Homer in the Catalogue of Ships alongside Boebe and Iolcus [1]. After this Bronze Age reference, the town does not appear in subsequent historical records [1]. In the 19th century, William Martin Leake identified the site with Hellenic ruins on a hill above modern Glafira, between Boebe and Iolcus, an identification accepted by modern scholars [1]. At the time of Leake's visit, the entire circuit of the citadel on the hill summit remained visible, with substantial walls still standing on the lower slopes [1].
