Iolcus

Iolcus is an ancient city in Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece, located in central Magnesia north of the Pagasitic Gulf [1]. In Greek mythology, it was the kingdom where Jason, son of Aeson, was sent by his uncle Pelias to retrieve the Golden Fleece, departing with the Argonauts from its shores [2]. Archaeological evidence confirms settlement from approximately 1500 to 500 BC, making it a significant Bronze Age and Archaic period site in Thessaly [3]. The municipal unit includes the communities of Ano Volos, Agios Onoufrios, and Anakasia, covering 1.981 km² with a population of 2,008 [1]. Today it functions as a suburban unit of Volos following the 2011 local government reform [1].
