Kompoloi

Kompoloi is an ancient winery excavated in the plain of Leivithra near Skotina, Pieria, Greece, approximately 500 meters east of the A1 motorway. Excavated between 1997 and 2000, the building was erected in the mid-4th century BC and used until the early 3rd century BC when it was destroyed by fire. The site represents a specialized wine production facility within the agricultural territory of ancient Leivithra, a city at the foot of Mount Olympus historically associated with the Muses and Orpheus. Fragments of a nearly 2,000-liter clay storage vessel from the site are exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
