Grenoble Archaeological Museum

The Musee archeologique Saint-Laurent occupies a historic parish church at the foot of the Bastille in Grenoble, showcasing 1,500 years of religious and funerary history. The site preserves layers from a 4th-century Gallo-Roman necropolis through Merovingian, Carolingian, and Romanesque periods. Its exceptional 6th-century crypt is a unique witness to early Medieval art and architecture in France. Systematic excavations from 1978 to 1995 uncovered over 1,500 burials and 3,000 artifacts. Deconsecrated in 1983, it opened as a museum in 1986 and was renovated and reopened in 2011.
