Orange, Vaucluse

Orange is a commune in Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, southeastern France, located about 21 km north of Avignon [1]. Today it is Vaucluse's second-most populated city after Avignon [1]. The town is renowned for exceptional Roman monuments, including the best-preserved Roman theatre in Europe, which retains its towering façade and cavea seating [2]. The Triumphal Arch, a monumental gateway dating to the 1st century AD, stands as another significant Roman relic [2]. Orange was an important Roman colony (Arausio) founded in 36 BC and became a major center in Roman Gaul [2].
