Triumphal Arch of Orange

The Triumphal Arch of Orange is a triumphal arch in Orange, southeast France. There is debate about its construction date, but current scholarship, based on the inscription, favors the reign of Emperor Augustus (27 BC–14 AD) [1]. It was built on the former via Agrippa to honor veterans of the Gallic Wars and Legio II Augusta [1]. The arch was later reconstructed under Emperor Tiberius to celebrate the victories of Germanicus over German tribes in the Rhineland, bearing an inscription from AD 27 [1]. Alongside the Roman Theatre of Orange, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1981 due to its exceptional preservation [1].
