Entremont (Oppidum)

Entremont is a 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) archaeological site 3 km from Aix-en-Provence at the southern tip of the Puyricard plateau. In the 2nd century BC, it served as the capital of the Celtic-Ligurian confederation of Salyes, controlling much of modern Provence[1]. The oppidum was settled between 180 and 170 BC, later than comparable sites like Saint-Blaise[1]. It was conquered by Romans in 123 BC and replaced by Aquae Sextiae at the plateau's foot[1]. By 90 BC, the settlement was completely abandoned[1].
