Roman Aqueduct of Vieu

A Roman underground aqueduct located in Vieu in the Ain department, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, France. The subterranean structure stretches from Champagne-en-Valromey to the Adoue fountain in Vieu. Dating is uncertain but estimated to the second half of the 2nd century AD based on research by R. Chevallier and Robert Bedon. Classified as a historical monument on France's first official list in 1840, the aqueduct attracted scholarly attention from the 17th century onward, including study by gastronome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin around 1820.
