Woolbury

An Iron Age univallate hillfort on Stockbridge Down, Hampshire, enclosing 7.5 hectares with a single rampart and ditch. Barry Cunliffe's 1989 excavation dated initial construction to c.550 BC as part of the Danebury Environs Programme. Despite excavating 2% of the interior, no certain Iron Age structures were found, suggesting the fort served as a territorial boundary marker rather than a settlement. The surrounding landscape includes 15 Bronze Age barrows and an extensive Celtic field system first photographed in 1924. A Romano-British farmstead later occupied the interior.
