Wicklewood Roman Temple

Romano-Celtic temple discovered in 1959 from cropmarks near Wymondham, Norfolk. The rectangular building (15x17m) features a cella of mortared flint rubble with plastered walls decorated in red, yellow, and black, and the base of a large deity statue. Classified as a Type I Romano-Celtic temple facing east, it is one of only four such sites identified with certainty in Norfolk. Finds spanning the 1st-4th centuries AD include pottery, coins, ornate votive brooches, and evidence of metalworking nearby.
