Brampton, Norfolk

Brampton is a village in Norfolk's Bure Valley, east of Aylsham, notable for a major Roman industrial settlement. Archaeological excavations in the 1960s revealed a Roman bath house and over 140 pottery kilns, making it one of the largest production centres in Roman Britain. Pottery production began in the late 1st or early 2nd century and continued to at least the mid-3rd century. The site was purely artisan in character, with port facilities and maritime trade links across the empire. Brampton's St Peter's Church is one of 124 surviving round-tower churches in Norfolk.
