Venta Icenorum

Venta Icenorum was the civitas capital of the Iceni tribe and the largest Roman town in East Anglia, located at modern-day Caistor St Edmund in Norfolk. Established around 70 AD after the Iceni revolt under Boudica was crushed, the town was laid out on a grid pattern with a forum, basilica, baths, temples, and an amphitheatre. Rediscovered in 1928 through aerial reconnaissance, it is one of only three Roman regional capitals in Britain never built over by later towns, alongside Wroxeter and Silchester. Now managed by the Norfolk Archaeological Trust.
