Priddy Nine Barrows and Ashen Hill Barrow Cemeteries

Priddy Nine Barrows and Ashen Hill are Bronze Age barrow cemeteries (c. 2000-700 BC) on the Mendip Hills in Somerset. Ashen Hill comprises six bowl barrows and two bell barrows aligned east to west, while Priddy Nine Barrows contains nine bowl barrows within a wider cemetery of around 30. Rev. John Skinner partially excavated both in 1815, uncovering cremation burials in stone cists, bronze daggers and spearheads, amber beads, a bronze ring, and a small incense cup. The cemeteries sit on the two highest ridges in the area and are assumed to relate to the nearby Priddy Circles, 750m to the north.
