Burrington Camp

Burrington Camp, also known as Burrington Ham, is a late prehistoric hill-slope enclosure in the Mendip Hills of North Somerset, approximately 1 km south of the village of Burrington. The site has an oval plan and is univallate, enclosing about 2 acres, with unusual rampart extensions on the southwest and northeast corners. Despite its hillfort appearance, excavation of the interior revealed no significant archaeology, leading some researchers to suggest it may have served as a defended cattle enclosure rather than a settlement. It is one of three hillforts on the Northern Mendip Scarp alongside Dolebury and Banwell.
