Pomeroy Wood

Pomeroy Wood is a 1st-century AD Roman military site near Honiton in Devon, probably a fort or marching camp, though its exact type remains inconclusive. Discovered during improvements to the A30 Honiton-Exeter road in the late 1990s, excavations revealed an earth and timber rampart flanked by two deep ditches with narrow ankle-breaker slots at their bases. Preserved biological evidence indicates the garrison included a cavalry unit. Samian ware pottery fragments were also recovered from the site.
