Belbury Castle

Belbury Castle is an Iron Age hillfort near Ottery St Mary in Devon, England, situated at approximately 115 metres above sea level overlooking the River Otter valley. The roughly oval defended area covers nearly one hectare, enclosed by a rampart and ditch, with an interior measuring about 150 metres north-south and 60 metres east-west. Recorded as Bigulfesburgh in a charter of 1061 AD, the name may derive from 'Beowulf's burgh', indicating its prominence as a visible landmark in the medieval landscape.
