Maiden Castle, Dorset

Maiden Castle is an Iron Age hillfort located 2.6 km (1.6 mi) southwest of Dorchester in Dorset, England[1]. The earliest archaeological evidence consists of a Neolithic causewayed enclosure and bank barrow[1]. Around 1800 BC, during the Bronze Age, the site was used for crop cultivation before being abandoned[1]. The hillfort itself was constructed around 600 BC, initially covering 6.4 hectares in a simple design similar to other British hill forts[1].
