Thebes

Thebes was an ancient Egyptian city known to its inhabitants as Waset, situated along the Nile approximately 800 km south of the Mediterranean [1]. The ruins of Thebes now lie within the modern city of Luxor [1]. It served as the principal city of the fourth Upper Egyptian nome and functioned as Egypt's capital during extended periods of the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom eras [1].
