Obelisk of Thutmose I

The Obelisk of Thutmose I stands in the Central Court of Karnak Temple, beyond the Third Pylon. Originally erected in front of the Fourth Pylon—the entrance to Karnak during Thutmose I's reign (1506–1493 BC)—it is the sole surviving obelisk of an original group of four [1]. Rising 21.7 metres (71.1 ft) tall and weighing approximately 143 tons, it is inscribed with three vertical columns of hieroglyphs per side, the central column containing a dedication to the god Amun-Ra [1].
