Valley of the Queens

The Valley of the Queens is an ancient Egyptian necropolis where queens, princes, princesses, and high-ranking officials were interred from approximately 1560 BC to 1130 BC [1]. Originally called Ta-Set-Neferu, meaning 'The Place of Beauty' or 'the Place of the Royal Children,' the site contains approximately 110 tombs across multiple valleys [2]. The main wadi houses 91 tombs, with additional tombs in subsidiary valleys [2]. Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli pioneered excavation of the site in the early 1900s [1].
