Temple of Ptah, Sekhmet and Nefertom

The Temple of Ptah at Karnak is a shrine within the Precinct of Amun-Re in Luxor, dedicated to the Memphite triad of Ptah, Sekhmet, and Nefertum. Built by Thutmose III over an earlier Middle Kingdom temple, it features three interconnecting sanctuaries preceded by a two-column portico and pylon. Restored by Shabaka in the 25th Dynasty and later by the Ptolemies and Romans, the builders unusually preserved original royal inscriptions rather than substituting their own. The south chapel houses a black granite statue of Sekhmet, reassembled from fragments by Legrain, illuminated by moonlight through a roof orifice on certain nights.
