Siscia

Siscia, modern-day Sisak in Croatia, was a major Roman city at the confluence of the Kupa, Sava, and Odra rivers. Captured by Octavian in 35 BC after a thirty-day siege, it was elevated to colonia status by Vespasian as Colonia Flavia Siscia. The city housed the state mint and treasury in the 3rd-4th centuries and served as capital of Pannonia Savia. Excavations have revealed bath buildings, walls, inscriptions, and stamped tiles reading 'SISC(ia)', though much of ancient Siscia lies beneath the modern town.
