Roman City Ruins of Salona

Salona was an ancient Roman city and capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia, located near modern Split. Originally settled by the Illyrian Dalmati tribe, it flourished under Roman rule and became one of the largest cities of the late Roman empire with approximately 60,000 inhabitants [1]. It served as the last residence of the final western Roman Emperor Julius Nepos and acted as the de facto capital of the Western Roman Empire from 476 to 480 AD [1].
