Halikan

Halikan is a 1st-century AD Roman municipium in present-day Croatia's Međimurje County, within Sveti Martin na Muri municipality. Covering approximately 3 km², it was square in ground plan. A major Roman road from Aquileia passed nearby, running through Aemona (modern Ljubljana) and Poetovio (modern Ptuj) before branching near Halikan toward Carnuntum (near Vienna) and Aquincum (Budapest). Archaeological research began in 1977 but has recently been interrupted, with the site now closed for protection and restoration.[1]
