Aedava

Aedava was a Dacian settlement located south of the Danube in Moesia [1]. In his 6th-century work De Aedificiis, the historian Procopius placed Aedava on the Danubian road between Augustae and Variana [1]. Emperor Justinian (r. 527-565) later restored the damaged portion of the town's defenses, as recorded by Procopius [1]. The settlement dates to between 500 BC and 1 AD, placing it in the Iron Age and early Roman periods.
