Castra Martis

Castra Martis was a Roman fortified garrison in Dacia Ripensis, located at modern Kula in northwestern Bulgaria [1]. Named after the god of war Mars, it protected the strategic Vrashka Chuka pass through the western Balkan Mountains [1][2]. The fortress evolved into a town and became a Christian bishopric, remaining a Latin Catholic titular see today [1]. It served as a suffragan of the provincial capital's metropolitan arch [1].
