Sostra

Sostra is a Roman fortress and road station near Lomets, Bulgaria, serving as the sixth station along the Via Traiana connecting Lower Moesia with Thrace. Construction began around 147 AD under Emperor Antoninus Pius, with the fortress later rebuilt in 254 AD with added bastions for improved defence. Excavations (2002-2016) by Prof. Ivan Hristov uncovered a luxury mansio covering 500 square metres with hypocaust heating, an indoor swimming pool, and a spa complex fed by mineral springs. The site also yielded an early Christian basilica, a Thracian deity sanctuary, silver coins, and ceramics.
