Giridava

Giridava (also Giridaua or Geridava) was a Dacian town in Lower Moesia, corresponding to modern northern Bulgaria, tentatively identified with the village of Drenov. The name follows the Dacian -dava suffix meaning 'city' or 'fortress,' derived from Proto-Indo-European roots. Listed among Dacian settlements in Lower Moesia, the toponym is reconstructed from ancient sources, indicated by scholarly convention with an asterisk.
